When living in Ille-sur-Tet, Les Orgues (the organs) is one of those local sights that you either visit right away because it’s so convenient or you put off until the end of your stay for the same reason. It’s close; it’s easy, so why rush? That said, if you are in this area of southern France it is a must see that shouldn’t take more than 45 minutes, 30 minutes if you really need to rush, as it is a .8 kilometer walk from the parking area to the actual site. So on a pretty afternoon in mid-June we finally made the effort and were rewarded with some nice pics.
Wow, that looks really really similar to Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah, like a miniature version of Bryce.. in Bryce, the formations are a more orange color.. and it’s a huge area that can take hours and even days to walk through. Very cool.
I didn’t think about that; it’s been a long time since I’ve seen Bryce. But you’re right and “miniature” being the operative word. It takes longer to walk for the parking area to the formations than around the circuit through the formations themselves!
Wow. Had no idea there was something like that in France.
Karen, thanks for the comment. For a small site it has some interesting formations, but it isn’t nearly as spectacular as Bryce Canyon in Utah. For spectacular check out the Cirque de Gavarnie .
