Just about dinner time the thunder started. I didn’t think much of it until I found that it was pouring rain as I headed out to dinner. I was hungry and had nothing in my room to eat. I first thought that I would just stop at the closest restaurant, the expat hangout on the corner. But after looking at the menu I just couldn’t do it. I had gotten used to the Chinese menus and the more western menu of pasta dishes, steaks and westernized Chinese food just didn’t appeal. Braving the rain (the smart people were all waiting it out in the doorways) I headed over to restaurant I like with the windows on the second floor overlooking the street. You could hear the rain beating down on roof. The waiter silently waited as I read through the menu. I didn’t know he was watching over my shoulder until I turned around to see where he was. I tried the hollow heart vegetable stir-fried with garlic and tea tree mushrooms with what I think was tripe and chilies. Hen làde. Great combination of textures – soft mushrooms and chewy strips of meat. I’m starting to get the hang of this place.
