St Ambroix Tuesday Market, Gard, Southern France

Photos taken June 25, 2013.

The town of St Ambroix, at the northwestern edge of the Cevennes mountains, is large enough to offer a range of services but small enough to maintain its small town ambience. As such its Tuesday market is a great place to experience the regional culture and sample the local produce.

Primarily a food market, a variety of meat, vegetable and cheese purveyors congregate in the small square in front of the church with a few more vendors spilling down the street behind the church. Although there are few specialty products available, the authentic market, catering more to locals than tourists, includes a selection of food items worthy of a shopping trip to stock the fridge or to prepare that favorite French recipe.
