Christchurch 3 Year After the Earthquake, NZ

February 26, 2014

Nearly 3 years to the day since the devastating earthquake, I’m shocked to see the state of the city. I’ve read about the massive destruction produced by the shallow 6.3 temblor – shallow earthquakes generally cause more damage, but to walk the streets of abandoned buildings, piles of rubble, empty lots, cranes and occasional new construction is something else. In contrast, the stately old trees along the Avon River that runs through the city center look as stable as ever.
