October 6, 2014 – Day 2
A lazy morning on the lake. After breakfast our group scatters – one couple takes the kayaks out, others go for walks in the surrounding cliffs, some just enjoy a beautiful sunny morning from the upper deck of the boat while Don teases small bass with a big lure.
Later we move the boat up the channel to Oak Creek Bay, about a 4.5 hour journey from Gunsight Canyon. It’s a beautiful day with brilliant blue skies.
Now experienced, our “crew” beaches and anchors the boat like professionals taking advantage of previously dug anchor holes.
Oak Creek Bay has a number of beach spots for house boats and is a popular destination as it is just a couple of miles from Forbidding Canyon and Rainbow Bridge. In the late afternoon Don and take out one of the kayaks to explore the bay surrounded by red cliffs. At the current water level most of the channels off the bay are impassible.
After dinner we end the evening with a fire on a the beach.
