Set on a hilltop a few kilometers from the city center, the Gateway Hotel Pasumalia is a faded colonial era resort is known for its city views, the best of which are from the elegant dining area.
The extensive grounds are well kept and home to domesticated peacocks that seem to own the place. Certainly they are not shy at meal time, popping their heads up at the breakfast table hoping for a stray scrap.
The afternoon of our arrival we lazed around in the hammocks down by the pool. A perfect temperature with a soft breeze blowing, we fell asleep in the peaceful shade.
Our standard room was huge, but dark and a bit musty smelling. The bathroom, however, looked recently redone with granite walls and counters, a good shower and nice amenities. The bed is comfortable and the room quiet with good Wifi.
The breakfast buffet served in the dining room has a large selection of Indian and Western options, none of which were very impressive. Typical buffet fare, but it is a lovely and pleasant setting in the soft morning air.
