Devaraja Market, Mysore, India

February 5, 2015

Surrounded by worn yellow walls of a previous era stands the captivating Devaraja market. At 10AM on a weekday morning there was plenty of activity without being overly crowded. Stalls were full of fruit, vegies, flowers and some dry goods on the outer rows. Men were still carrying in large bundles of produce. In the center section is a banana market with stall after stall of various types of bananas with laborers carry in more bananas in baskets balanced on their head.

The colors and smells of the flower market are mesmerizing. Such a contrast from the dirty streets outside the market.

Vegetables are neatly arranged with produce looking fresh, plentiful and waiting to be photographed. Light is dim from the overhead shade cloth while large gaps in the cloth produce glaring streaks of sunlight making photography difficult but the scene is worth the effort.
