Hiking the Cinque Terre, Italy

June 27 – 29, 2015

Cinque Terre

While sections of the trail are steep, very steep, over all this is not a hard trail if you are a hiker. By far the steepest and prettiest section is the trail between Vernazza and Monterosso. This section was also the most crowded with tons of Americans. Considering the temperature during our visit in late June, it was fortunate that much of this trail in also in the shade, especially in the morning.

The costal sections between Corniglia and Manarola and then on to Riomaggiore were closed during the time of our visit due to landslides, which forced us to take the high trail from Corniglia to Manarola. While a steep climb up, we thought the views from the top were well worth the climb and loved walking through the terraced vineyards – about a two-hour walk between these two villages.
