Mykonos Beaches, Greece

Agios Ioannis Beach

The Mykonos’s beaches are served by regular bus service, every hour to half hour for the more popular ones.

Agios Ioannis BeachAgios Ioannis, a short bus ride from Mykonos town, is Rick Steves’s favorite. We hit the beach fairly early around 10AM and found the beach nearly deserted. We paid for two lounge chairs and hung out for a couple of hours enjoying the sea and sun in this quiet cove.

With just one other couple when we arrived the place was starting to buzz when we left. The water is still pretty cold in May but nice for a brisk dip.

After a quick lunch in town we decided to check out one of the party beaches. While Paradise has lost its status as hottest party beach – that title now belongs to Super Paradise, and based on the line to board the Super Paradise bus, I imagine it is still true – Paradise still does good business. The bus to Paradise was pretty full when we got to the bus stop at 3:30 with even more young folks heading out when we got back to town at just before 5.

While the bar/restaurants have a great set up with rows of beach chairs and beds, the beach itself is quite narrow and comprised of coarse, soft sand that is difficult to walk on. Worse, there is almost no place to walk to. That said it’s a fun vibe with great people watching.
